The Japanese government has ordered cryptocurrency exchanges not to process transactions related to cryptocurrencies that are subject to sanctions on the freezing of assets of Russia and Belarus due to the war in Ukraine. The move comes after the Group of Seven (G7) statement on Friday, which said Western countries would “set the costs for Russian figures who use digital assets to increase and pass on their wealth.” On Friday, the US Treasury Department issued new instructions that US cryptocurrency firms “should not engage in transactions with unauthorized persons,” the agency said.
