Companies financially confirm their intentions to build energy storage systems in Ukraine.
As reported in Ukrenergo, 11 out of 13 winning companies in relevant auctions have deposited funds into escrow accounts. In this way, the companies financially guaranteed the construction of 99 MW of power plant capacity, which will be available to the power system in a year. By August 15 2025, they must pass equipment certification and start providing this energy storage for the Ukrainian power system in October.
This will provide a frequency support reserve for electrical installations that must constantly respond to a change in the power system’s frequency. This is a reserve that can respond quickly and automatically – no later than 30 seconds after the occurrence of a frequency deviation. This system is necessary for the stable synchronous operation of the European and Ukrainian energy systems.
Ukrenergo added that the purchase of frequency support reserves increases the energy system’s balancing capacity in the future and a significant discount in the cost of auxiliary services.
