China supplies Russia with up to 70% of the components for drones.

According to the Yermak-McFaul International Working Group, China accounts for 67% of the supply of drone components (17% of them pass through Hong Kong). The shares of Turkey and the UAE are 5% and 2%, respectively. Components manufactured in Japan, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and other countries were also found in the drones.

Analysts noted that many parts are available through public trading platforms, making regulatory oversight difficult. Therefore, the group proposes to harmonize the lists of sanctions between partner countries, to unify the lists of dual-use goods based on the Harmonized System’s classification codes, and to expand the categories of goods subject to sanctions based on these codes.

It is emphasized that companies should develop clearer guidelines to ensure compliance with the law. It is recommended that cooperation between producers and authorities be strengthened to improve compliance with sanctions and implement effective restrictive measures.
