Central and Eastern Europe is increasing solar generation capacity: Which countries have become the strongest growth drivers?

Electricity production from solar power plants in Central and Eastern Europe is growing faster than in any other European region. According to the Ember platform, solar energy production in the five largest countries of the region – Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Poland – jumped by 55% in the first seven months of the year compared to January-July last year.

This is more than 100% higher than the European growth rate as a whole and significantly higher than the growth rate of the top five solar producers in Western, Southern, and Northern Europe.  Poland and Hungary have become the most critical driving forces for the growth of solar energy in Central and Eastern Europe. Since the beginning of the year, electricity production from SPPs in Poland amount to 11.3 TWh, and in Hungary – 5.8 TWh.

These figures have increased by 33.3% and 47.7%, respectively, compared to last year and are among the fastest-growing rates in all of Europe. The trend shows that solar installations have become more affordable than other forms of electricity generation.
