By the end of the year, Ukraine will have implemented about 35% of NATO standards.
According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, almost 18% have already been implemented. The minister drew attention to the fact that there are more than 1,200 NATO standards, but not a single NATO member country has implemented 100% of them. According to the minister, on average, the maximum number of NATO standards implemented by any one member is 30-40%.
This means it is not a requirement to achieve complete compliance with all standards, and it’s simply impossible. For example, if a country does not have a navy, naval standards are not applicable. “The country may be small, and it does not have aviation and does not need aviation standards”, explained the minister.
Reznikov added that three things are generally crucial for joining NATO: the presence of civil-democratic control, transparency, publicity, and reporting of procedures, as well as joint planning of military operations.
