By summer, the EU will have trained 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers and delivered 500,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine, and Iceland has joined the Czech initiative.

The European Union, in cooperation with individual bloc member countries, has provided Ukraine with €31B worth of military equipment since the start of the full-scale war.

“But this is not enough, and the EU must increase both production capacity and financial resources,” said High Representative of the EU Josep Borrell.

Currently, several initiatives are underway to provide Ukraine with additional weapons. The EU will collectively train 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers and deliver 500,000 artillery munitions to Ukraine by summer, with more than one million shells by the end of the year. In addition, the European defense industry is providing Ukraine with 400,000 rounds through commercial contracts and the Czech initiative to supply shells from outside the bloc.

Also, Iceland has joined the Czech initiative, allocating about €2M for shells and investing €500,000 to purchase equipment for women in the Ukrainian army.
