Borrell: The EU has failed to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to counter Russia.
EU has struggled to make progress this year on a fair settlement of the war against Ukraine, said EU High Representative Josep Borrell. He recalled that this year, the EU had allocated €122B in aid to Ukraine, including €45B in military support. In addition, the bloc has allowed the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to guarantee Ukrainian assistance in the future.
“But we have failed to provide Ukraine with sufficient resources to protect it from constant air attacks on its civilian and energy infrastructure,” the diplomat noted.
Borrell also believes that the EU has not provided Ukraine with enough ammunition to prevent the Russian army’s advance. He called the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war a “worrying step” towards the war’s internationalization.
Simultaneously, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck expressed a similar position on support for Ukraine. In his opinion, Germany was too late in transferring weapons to Ukraine. As an example, the country delayed the transfer of Leopard tanks, and now the situation is similar with Taurus missiles.
