Borrell proposes an additional €20B in military support for Ukraine and a four-year program for €50B.

During his visit to Kyiv, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that the EU has provided Ukraine with €25B of military support, and the total aid amounts to €85B. He also emphasized that the EU will support Ukraine regardless of the course of the war.

“This is permanent, structured support because we face an existential threat. We want the Ukrainians to be more successful, so we need to provide more weapons faster,” said the diplomat.

Borrell also emphasized that the EU is not waiting for budgetary issues in the US to be settled, but instead is moving to increase its support. Besides the European Commission’s proposal to allocate €50B to Ukraine, at an informal meeting of the Council of the EU in Toledo, Spain, Borrell proposed the creation of a four-year, €20B internal fund within the framework of the European Peace Fund. He hopes that member states will make corresponding decisions by the end of the year.
