Blinken arrives in Kyiv to reassure Ukraine of US support and announced a new $1B aid package.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Ukraine on September 6 to demonstrate Washington’s support amid Ukraine’s counteroffensive and criticism among some Republicans concerning the level of US support. According to Western media, Blinken announced $1 billion in new US support for Ukraine, including military, humanitarian, and budgetary assistance.

Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State met with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba. He stated that Washington sees the progress of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, and the US will make sure that Ukraine has the necessary assistance both now and in the long term.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed with the US Secretary of State the strengthening of economic cooperation between the countries, American business, and progress in implementing reforms. The parties also focused on the protection of energy infrastructure.
