Biden will block the bill on aid to Israel without Ukraine, but the US has only $5.4B left to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
US President Joe Biden may veto a Republican bill on providing aid to Israel without providing for any aid for Ukraine. At stake is $14.3B in aid, which would be obtained by reducing funds for the Internal Revenue Service, the White House Administration and Budget Office said.
The proposed bill separates the aid from Biden’s broader request for $106B in emergency funding, which would help Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan as well as strengthen the southern US border. Voting is expected to take place on November 2.
At the same time, on Tuesday, senators from both parties expressed doubts about the Republican plan in the House of Representatives to provide aid to Israel separately from Ukraine. The top Democrat in the Senate said the Republican bill would be “dead” on arrival in the upper chamber, even if it passed the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, according to the Pentagon, they have a little more than $5.4B for military aid to Ukraine.
