Biden is ready to compromise on border security to obtain $61B in aid for Ukraine.

The White House and Congress are in a hurry to conclude an agreement that would provide military aid to Ukraine and Israel and, at the same time, provide resources to control illegal immigration across the US-Mexico border.

Republicans have refused to approve increased funding for Ukraine without taking additional measures to reduce the record number of migrants trying to cross the US border illegally.

President Joe Biden said he is ready to make significant concessions on border security, after Senate Republicans rejected a $20B aid package for the border. The White House is ready to tighten requirements for asylum applicants, speed up deportations nationwide, and even ban immigration through third countries.

The Republican-led House of Representatives has until December 14 to wrap up this issue. The Democratic-led Senate has a similar timeline. With that in mind, the goal is to hammer out a basic agreement and possibly work on the specifics of the legislative text over the holidays.
