Biden calls the failure to provide aid to Ukraine the “greatest gift“ for Russia.
A bill under consideration in the US Senate, which would allocate $110B for assistance to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other purposes, did not pass a procedural vote in the US Senate.
“Tonight is a sad night in the Senate’s and our country’s history. Republicans have just blocked a much-needed proposal to provide funding for Ukraine, funding for Israel, humanitarian aid for innocent civilians in Gaza, and funding for the Indo-Pacific region. If Senate Republicans don’t get serious soon and deal with the national security package, Vladimir Putin will go right through Ukraine and right through Europe,” said Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer.
In turn, US President Joe Biden said that American lawmakers must approve funding for Ukraine this month, otherwise they risk giving Putin ’the greatest gift he could hope for’.
“This cannot wait. Congress must approve additional funding for Ukraine before it goes on vacation – it’s simple,” the American leader emphasized.
