Because of the war in Ukraine, electricity production has been reduced by a third.
In the first four months of the current year, electricity production in Ukraine fell by 19.4% compared to the same period last year – to 36.5 billion kWh. Compared to the same period before the war in 2021, production fell even more, by 32.5%, according to the UNDP and World Bank reports.
Generation at nuclear power plants fell by 32.8% in the first four months of the year compared to the same indicator in 2021, at thermal power plants by 45.3%, at combined heat and power plants by 41.7%, and through renewable energy by 34.4%. At the same time, electricity production at HPPs increased by 36.4% thanks to the hydrophile.
The drop in generation is associated with Russian missile strikes, drone attacks on energy infrastructure, and reduced electricity consumption. Thus, the report states that electricity consumption in January-April amounted to 32.4 billion kWh, 18.9% less than in 2022 and 33.5% less than in 2021.
