Banks forecast a decrease in deposit rates, but Ukrainians keep increasing their balances.
Most financial institutions expect a decrease in the amount of deposited funds in the fourth quarter of 2023, according to the survey by the NBU.
Instead, third quarter data shows an increase in household deposit rates. Many respondents also reported an increase in the amount of household funds. Almost all respondents noted that their total amount of capital has increased over the past year. In the next 12 months, banks expect a capital increase, and this trend would continue from the beginning of 2023.
At the same time, according to the Deposit Guarantee Fund of Individuals, as of October 1 the total amount of consumer deposits (including individual entrepreneurs) in banks amounted to ₴1.139T, which is ₴23.9B higher than the figure on September 1. The current deposit amount exceeds the figure as of January 1 by ₴87.3B. The share of FOP in the structure of depositors is currently 3.1%, and the sum of their deposits is ₴134B (11.8% of the total).
