Another step toward gunpowder production: Farmers will receive subsidies for growing cotton.

For the first time in Ukraine, state financial support is being provided to farmers who cultivate cotton in the southern regions. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this initiative aims to restore the cultivation of this strategically important crop. This plant holds particular value in wartime, as cotton pulp is used to produce gunpowder. The subsidy amount is ₴10,000 ($240) per hectare of cotton in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions.
To access funds, growers must submit an application between June 10 and July 10 2025, on the website dar.gov.ua. Subsidies will be disbursed starting September 15. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs registered in the agricultural register, who have no government debts, and do not operate in the occupied territories, can apply for state support.
UBN reminds you that last year a successful cotton growing experiment was conducted in southern Ukraine.
