Another million Ukrainians are at risk of displacement due to the war, and hundreds of thousands will return from the EU after their social benefits are cut.

The Assistant Secretary General of the UN for European Affairs, Miroslav Jenca, said that due to the war, millions of people living in the east or south of Ukraine may be forced to leave their homes. At the same time, millions of Ukrainians are already considered displaced persons and in need of humanitarian assistance.

Jenca, detailing their struggles: “Large-scale damage to the energy infrastructure creates risks of worsening the already terrible humanitarian situation, as well as access to basic services on the eve of winter”.

Meanwhile, according to President Zelenskyy, several EU countries are looking for ways to force unemployed Ukrainians to return home.

“There are over 1.1 million Ukrainians in Germany, of which at least 300,000 do not work anywhere and are not looking for work. There are many such people throughout Europe,” the president noted.

He added that many refugees will return because social benefits and support will disappear. At the same time, however, some citizens are waiting for the end of the war to return.
