A Ukrainian state bank records a 27% increase in card payment transactions: What are Ukrainians buying?
In the first half of the year, Ukrainians paid with cards through the PrivatBank network for 1.6 billion purchases worth ₴451B. This is 27.3% more than in the first half of last year. At that time, the indicators were 1.3 billion payments totaling ₴350B.
According to the bank, Ukrainians spend the most on food products – the share of payments in grocery stores and supermarkets in the total volume of non-cash payments was 44%. In second place in terms of card payment volume is medicines and health products, which have accounted for 6.6% of payments through the first six months of the year. In third place is public catering establishments (6.4%). Expenses on clothes and shoes make up 4.5%, fuel – 4.2%.
Among the leaders of goods and services for which Ukrainians paid using cards are household goods (4% of the consumer basket), electronics and household appliances (3.8%), transport costs (1.5%), and recreation (1.4%).
