A new housing initiative for internally displaced persons is being developed in Ukraine.

Ukrainian government representatives and the World Bank have discussed a new housing support program for internally displaced individuals. Presently, the HOPE housing repair project, jointly undertaken with the World Bank, is a key component of the government’s housing restoration policy.

Expanding the program will enable internally displaced persons from temporarily occupied areas to acquire housing to replace what they have lost. Housing vouchers are planned to be issued, which can be used for purchasing homes, making down payments on mortgages, or repaying mortgage loans. Aid will be provided in phases: initially to participants in hostilities and families of fallen defenders, followed by individuals with disabilities, large families, and orphans, and finally to other categories of internally displaced persons.

The HOPE project has already enabled more than 94,000 Ukrainian families to receive compensation for housing restoration through the eReconstruction mechanism.
