A Canadian court ruled Thursday that Iran’s Jan. 2020 shoot-down of a UIA passenger jet was “intentional” and an “act of terrorism.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Edward Belobaba ruled: “On a balance of probabilities…the missile attacks on Flight 752 were intentional.” He added: “The plaintiffs have established that the shooting down of Flight 752 by the defendants was an act of terrorism and constitutes ‘terrorist activity.” Of the 167 passengers on board, 63 were Canadians. In response, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, said Friday: “The Canadian court is fundamentally not qualified to judge this aviation accident or potential negligence in an incident that is outside the territory and jurisdiction of Canada.”
