The EU prepares sanctions against China over its secret supply of drone engines to Russia.

The European Union is planning to impose sanctions against China this fall for its support of Russia in the war against Ukraine. Western media outlets are claiming that Chinese drone engines were covertly supplied to Russia via shell companies using the designation “industrial refrigeration units” in order to bypass Western restrictions.
However, the EU was aware of the Chinese drones being transferred to Russia even before the media reports surfaced. Consequently, 15 EU member states voiced their concerns to Beijing about these supplies, but China either denied involvement or refused to comment.
As well, India, who was notably helping Russia with some electronic supplies may also be targeted. According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Indian components were found in Russian strike drones, specifically in the Shahed and Gerana drones, which are used both on the front line and for strikes on civilian cities. The Indian Foreign Ministry responded, noting that India’s export of dual-use goods complies with its international non-proliferation commitments.
