Helsing sees significant opportunities in Ukrainian drone production and considers the country its primary market.

Co-founder of defense startup Helsing, Gundbert Scherf, noted that Ukraine has strong capabilities in drone manufacturing and is rapidly improving designs and technology. Initially, the war-torn country primarily focused on FPV drones, but now it is also advancing unmanned long-range systems. He said the scale and innovation happening in Ukraine through hundreds of private sector initiatives are truly impressive. Scherf expressed hope that if Helsing manages to deploy thousands of its HX-2 medium-range kamikaze drones in Ukraine, which resist electronic warfare using AI, it could change the dynamics on the battlefield. Scherf emphasizes that Ukraine has become a key factor in Helsing’s development, stating,

“We have a long-term commitment to Ukraine. This is not some one-time demonstration project, after which we will move in another direction and focus on something else. Ukraine is part of our company. It is at its core”.

Many defense experts have recently noted that the West is far behind in developing drone technology compared to China and Russia, and western drones have become completely useless on the battlefield. Due to the war, Ukraine has become an innovation hub and will develop the most powerful tech defense in the world.
