Kubilius at URC2025: Europe has provided Ukraine with about €54B in defense support during the full-scale war and is preparing new solutions.

Defense support to Ukraine from Europe during the full-scale war amounts to about €54B, or less than 0.1% of the bloc’s GDP, said European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius on the sidelines of URC2025. Considering this, he called for increased investment in Ukraine’s military capabilities, as it is Europe’s first line of defense against Russian aggression.
Kubilius also believes that Ukraine’s integration into the EU is beneficial for the bloc due to its achievements in defense, new technologies, and the military industry.
“When German intelligence services predict that Russia may be ready to test us in three to five years, I can say that it would be a big mistake for us not to integrate Ukraine into our community as soon as possible. Because that way, we will be able to have another battle-tested army on our side, capable of using millions of drones, and with a very developed defense industry,” the Commissioner noted.
Kubilius also said that the EU may soon find additional opportunities to support Ukraine in the defense sector.
