How much Russian gas is passing through Turkey to Europe?

It has been six months since Ukraine finally discontinued the transit of Russian gas to Europe. However, the EU is still buying Russian fuel in significant quantity. Between January and June this year, at least 8.1 billion cubic meters of Russian gas were transported to Europe through the Strandzha-2 compressor station in Bulgaria.

All of this gas flows through TurkStream, the only route currently delivering systematic supplies of Russian gas to Europe. Although European officials frequently discuss reducing dependence on Russian energy resources, the transit volumes tell a different story. Since August 2023, between 1.2 and 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been flowing through this route nearly every month. The highest amounts were recorded at the start of 2025, with January reaching 1.535 billion cubic meters and February with 1.529 billion cubic meters.

TurkStream is an export pipeline that supplies Russian gas to Turkey via the Black Sea. Its maximum design capacity is 31.5 billion cubic meters annually.
