Putin has once again set ultimatums aimed at ending the war but his initial goal is to continue annexing Ukrainian territories.

The Russian dictator outlined the conditions that Ukraine must meet to halt the aggression: “Kyiv must agree to a neutral status, refrain from engaging in any foreign alliances, renounce any ambitions for nuclear weapons, and recognize the outcomes of referendums conducted by Russia in the occupied Ukrainian regions.”

According to Putin, “disregarding the results of the referendums increases the risk of renewed armed conflict.” He further criticized the West for its unwillingness to conclude the war, alleging that they are using Ukraine “as a tool against Russia.” Earlier at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Putin reiterated that Ukrainians and Russians are one people; thus, in his view, all of Ukraine rightfully belongs to Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha responded to Putin’s remarks, suggesting that the Russian leader shows a total disregard for US efforts to mediate the conflict. Sybiha contended that with his statements, Putin openly reveals his intent to persist in seizing Ukrainian territory. The minister stressed that the only way to force Russia into peace is to remove its sense of impunity, bolster support for Ukraine’s defense, and inflict damage on the Russian economy through severe sanctions.
