The Ministry of Development and Trade announced: “The total Japanese humanitarian, technical, and financial support we have received is approximately $15B. We also intend to actively involve Japanese businesses in Ukraine’s restoration efforts.”
Both countries are executing joint initiatives via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In terms of transport infrastructure, the areas of focus include:
- Railways. Through grant assistance, Ukrzaliznytsia has received 25,000 tons of rail and heavy construction equipment to maintain seamless logistics, with plans to order an additional 3,000 tons.
- Automotive infrastructure. Ukraine has acquired modular bridges for the swift replacement of those that have been destroyed, as well as a significant number of vehicles and advanced equipment for bridge inspections.
- Ports. The Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration has obtained construction equipment to enable quick response; there are plans to engage businesses extensively in the ongoing modernization of port infrastructure, particularly through concession projects.
In order to attract businesses for reconstruction, Ukraine and Japan have established a platform aimed at facilitating the execution of promising cooperation projects.
