Farmers predict a 10% decrease in this year’s harvest.

This year, Ukraine’s agricultural sector expects a decrease in the gross harvest of grain and industrial crops by approximately 10% compared to last year, said Pavlo Koval, Director General of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.
“Reseeding of part of the area, reduction in the sowing of certain crops and difficult weather conditions will affect the reduction in the gross harvest,” he added.
This year, the area for soybeans has decreased, and the area for sugar beets has been reduced to approximately 220,000 hectares (last year – 250,000 hectares). Also, due to prolonged spring frosts farmers have had to partially reseed winter barley and wheat.
“In general, this year will probably not be a record for the farm industry. Yes, the May rains have improved the situation somewhat, but the weather in summer and autumn may adjust,” the expert noted.
So far, Ukraine has exported 38.303 million tons of grain and leguminous crops in the 11 months of the 2024/2025 marketing year. As of June 2, Ukraine has exported 14.8 million tons of wheat (last year – 17.4 million tons) and 20.5 million tons of corn (26.6 million tons last year).
