The European Union allocates €1.9B for Ukrainian military support.

During their visit to Lviv, top European diplomats promised to provide Ukraine with additional military support totaling nearly €1.9B, with €1B being allocated to purchase weapons directly from Ukrainian manufacturers using the Danish model. Another €600M will be directed towards artillery and ammunition, while more than €200M will be used to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.

To finance the assistance, the European Commission has signed an agreement with several EU countries to allocate €1B from the profits generated by frozen Russian assets to Ukraine’s defense industry. This strategic decision by the EC will facilitate the production of a wide range of weapons for Ukraine’s military, including drones, ammunition, and other critically important equipment. As well, EU countries have pledged to provide at least 1.35 million shells by the end of the year.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has separately highlighted the EU’s establishment of new effective instruments for the long-term development of the European defense industry to accelerate technological renewal and integrate the Ukrainian defense industry into pan-European supply chains.
