Russia and Ukraine exchanged airstrikes against each other ahead of the anniversary of victory day in World War II.

On May 7, Russia launched four ballistic missiles and 142 drones targeting Kyiv and other regional centers overnight, President Zelenskyy said on Wednesday. As a result of the attack, two people were killed in the capital, and seven were injured, including children, he stated. The strikes also targeted other regions of Ukraine, including Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, where additional individuals were injured, according to local authorities.

At the same time, Russian air defenses shot down 16 drones flying toward Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported. The governor of the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, stated that more than 100 drones and one missile targeted the area.

The exchange of drone and missile attacks occurred a day before a Putin-declared three-day ceasefire to celebrate the Allied victory over Nazi Germany.

Zelenskyy has said Ukraine cannot guarantee the safety of visiting foreign officials during the anniversary parade in Moscow. He has called on Russia to accept a 30-day truce but has not committed to reciprocating Putin’s 72-hour ceasefire.
