Britain will back Merz’s proposal to supply Ukraine with German Taurus missiles.

London will support Berlin’s decision to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles as a show of solidarity with the next German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who recently expressed his readiness to equip Ukraine with German-Swedish long-range cruise missiles if France and the UK endorse his decision. Furthermore, sources report that London has long urged Berlin to send Taurus missiles to Kyiv.
The Taurus is a potent cruise missile system capable of striking targets deep within Russian territory, potentially altering battlefield dynamics.
Current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has opposed transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine, fearing that Germany would become a direct participant in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Scholz’s stance has disappointed France and Britain, which are already supplying Ukraine with their own long-range missiles – the Scalp and Storm Shadow.
A spokesperson for Merz’s Christian Democratic Union party indicated that discussions regarding the provision of Taurus are ongoing, but support from British allies would assist Germany in making a final decision.
