Germany is ready to build up a powerful military force in response to the Russian threat and to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles.

A new coalition agreement was signed in Berlin, allowing unlimited funding for the defense sector and establishing the groundwork for Germany’s evolution into a robust military capability that can deter threats from Russia, even without US involvement.
Key elements of the document include the creation of a stable off-budget defense fund, the formation of a new National Security Council, deeper integration with NATO, and the modernization of cybersecurity and intelligence systems. According to the agreement, Berlin is assuming, for the first time since World War II, responsibility for assembling an army capable of defending both its own territory and that of its allies.
Friedrich Merz, who initiated the agreement, stated: “We are returning to a responsible approach to security. Our defense commitments will be fulfilled.”
Carsten Breuer, the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr (German armed forces), believes that Russia may potentially launch significant armed aggression against NATO member states by 2029.
Merz also noted that Berlin is ready to transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, but only in coordination with European allies.
