The US continued negotiations with Russia over the weekend and announced new details for Monday.

On a March 15 phone conversation, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the US’ military operations against the Houthis and ongoing peace talks in Ukraine. The parties also addressed further diplomatic steps in light of recent discussions in Saudi Arabia and reached an agreement to restore communications between Washington and Moscow.
Rubio also commented on the outcomes of last week’s meetings in Moscow between Trump’s special envoy, Steven Witkoff, and Russian President Putin, noting there was a “positive interaction.” After Witkoff’s return to Washington, the Trump team plans to carefully assess Russia’s position, and Trump intends to determine his next steps.
In this context, Trump indicated that new details regarding a potential ceasefire in Ukraine might emerge on Monday March 17.Trump cautioned that if Putin rejects the agreement, “bad news” awaits the world, though he expressed hope that the Russian leader would sign the agreement.
