Vance on sanctions and military actions: US vice president explains how to compel Russia to negotiate in good faith.

JD Vance told the WSJ that the US is prepared to impose new sanctions against Russia and does not rule out the possibility of deploying its military in Ukraine if the Kremlin fails to engage in negotiations sincerely.

“The US has economic and military levers of influence it can use against Putin,” he stated.

Vance further remarked that it’s too soon to determine which parts of Ukraine will remain under Russian occupation or what security guarantees the US, and its allies might offer Kyiv, as these specifics need to be negotiated.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin sought further clarification on Vance’s remarks about military actions concerning Russia, labeling his statement as “a new element in the US position.”

Subsequently, Vice President Vance accused the WSJ of misrepresenting his comments regarding the potential deployment of American troops in Ukraine. He emphasized that US troops should only be placed in harm’s way “if it serves American interests and security,” stressing that the conflict is between Russia and Ukraine.
