To worsen the situation with energy supplies, Russia is striking Ukraine’s gas infrastructure.
Amid reports that Ukraine faces a tense situation regarding its gas reserves and its aspirations to become an EU gas hub, Russia has launched another attack on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure. In the attack, Naftogaz’s production facilities in Poltava were damaged, leaving nine settlements in the Myrhorod district without gas supply.
On the night of February 11, Russia carried out a combined strike, launching approximately 19 cruise, ballistic, and guided aircraft missiles along with 124 strike drones.
In response, the Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted the Saratov Oil Refinery, which is involved in complex oil processing, on the same night.
According to the National Security and Defense Council, this is not Ukraine’s first attack on this refinery, as it is a key facility within the Russian fuel infrastructure. Its processing capacity reaches seven million tons of oil per year. Additionally, Ukrainian forces attacked the Saratov refinery in the city of Engels, where a military airfield is situated.
