Ukraine has learned to intercept a new Russian Shahed model and is creating a missile to counter the Oreshnik.
Ukrainian air defense systems recently intercepted a new type of Shahed drone marked with a “Ъ.” Russia is believed to have introduced its fourth series of Iranian-designed drones and achieved a production quantity of over 200 units. Specific details of the modifications remain unclear. Previously, Ukraine successfully used advanced electronic warfare systems to intercept and redirect Russian Shahed UAVs back to the aggressor state’s territory.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyy, notes that the threat from the new Russian medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missile is strong motivation for Kyiv to create its own anti-missile air defense. Only a few air defense systems in the world can repel the Oreshnik.
Syrskyy added that Ukraine’s defense enterprises are working on developing a new air defense system, as well as a modern missile system that will act as a deterrent against the Russian Oreshnik. He believes Ukraine has the capacity and capabilities to create its own air defense system.
