Ukraine warns Trump against hasty peace talks with Russia.
For an effective dialogue, Kyiv insists on first weakening the aggressor on the battlefield, notes The Telegraph. Although Donald Trump no longer promises “peace in 24 hours,” his team continues to put forward ambitious deadlines, promising to end the war in “100 days.” Such statements worry Kyiv, as this approach may play into the Kremlin’s hands.
“Control over the initiative should remain with us and not pass to Russia,” stressed Mykhailo Podoliak, an advisor to the head of the presidential office.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian military is implementing a strategy of large-scale strikes on key facilities inside the Russian Federation.
“We must continue this pressure to force Russia to seek a compromise out of necessity, not a voluntary desire,” Podoliak noted.
The Russians are managing to restore damaged facilities quickly, so only new supplies of Western weapons and harsher sanctions will force the Kremlin to reconsider its aggressive policy, Ukrainians believe. At the same time, officials are prepared for any scenarios in which Washington insists on a quick end to the conflict.
