The EC continues to work on a roadmap to eliminate Russian gas.

The European Commission is working on a roadmap to end its dependence on Russian gas, said EC spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

“Much has already been done. With the advent of the new year, an important milestone was reached: The agreement on the Ukrainian transit of Russian gas was completed, and Europe was prepared for this gas to no longer be on the market,” she said.

According to Itkonen, the following stages will be based on specific proposals.

“The presentation of the roadmap to completely phase out Russian gas will be the next stage. And the figures show that we have significantly reduced our consumption of Russian gas,” the EC spokesperson said.

Itkonen also noted that, although not a participant in the gas market, the European Commission played an active role and worked to protect energy supplies for EU member states, as well as Ukraine and Moldova.

“And we will continue to play this role,” she said.
