Ukrainian seaports handled a record 97.2 million tons of cargo in 2024; over 9,000 vessels passed through the Black Sea corridor.
Ukrainian seaports processed a record 97.2 million tons of freight in 2024, exceeding 2023’s figure by 57%, the Ministry of Community Development reported. Ukrainian ports are a key link for exports, particularly grain and metal products. About 60 million tons of the total volume were agricultural products, confirming the ports’ key role in exporting agricultural goods. 88.1 million tons of cargo were exported by sea, compared to 56.2 million tons a year earlier.
Commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksiy Neizhpapa, noted that in 2024 the Ukrainian Navy ensured safe passage for 9,061 civilian vessels through the sea corridor. According to Neizhpapa, 4,651 ships arrived in Ukraine last year, and 4,410 departed for other ports.
“This allowed Ukraine to export over 74.4 million tons of cargo, including agricultural products, which is critically important for supporting our economy and the world’s food security. After all, almost 80% of cargo is transported by sea,” Neizhpapa emphasized.
