Ukraine has approved energy independence passports for each region in order to stimulate distributed generation investment.
The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development and the Ministry of Energy have approved energy independence passports for each region of Ukraine. The regional energy passport is a comprehensive assessment of the potential for the development of each region’s distributed generation.
The document allows regional administrations to develop detailed action plans, particularly for the development of distributed generation, considering each territory’s specifics. Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba noted that this will help increase energy security and stimulate territories’ economic development through investment in renewable energy and infrastructure.
“Energy passports allow us to see a complete and, most importantly, a detailed picture of the needs and balance of each region. Based on the needs and available resources, we can attract international partners for specific tasks to find opportunities,” Kuleba emphasized.
Further growth in distributed generation construction is expected in 2025 and beyond, covering community needs. Last year, 835 MW of gas-fired generation was commissioned.
