Ukrainian automotive market trends in 2024: a decline in the popularity of new gasoline-powered vehicles and an increase in electric vehicles.

In December 2024, Ukrainians purchased more than 5,500 new passenger cars, 6% less than in 2023. In total, 69,600 new passenger cars were registered during the year, 14% more than in 2023.

In 2024, the most popular models in the Ukrainian new passenger car market remained models with gasoline engines. However, their market share decreased by 7% compared to 2023, to 40%. Next is the diesel car segment, which, in turn, increased from 22.8% to 25.6%. The share of hybrids also increased from 17.7% to 19.5%. In addition, the share of electric cars increased from 12% to 14.5%. Also, cars equipped with LPG engines again accounted for less than 1% of the new car market.

From January to October 2024, 50,225 electric passenger cars were imported to Ukraine. The total customs value of these cars amounted to almost $1.1B. Of this number, 13,684 cars were new, for which importers spent $368M. The largest number of new electric cars was imported from China – 12,024 units. The leading supplier of used electric cars was the US, with 13,808 cars.
