The Ministry of Finance states that Ukraine has the resources to fight Russia in 2025.
Although European allies are concerned that the US will cease providing aid to Kyiv after Donald Trump enters office, the EU is confident that Ukraine will soon receive a $50B loan to be repaid with proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The US plans to provide $20B of the loan. The Biden administration is also allocating new aid packages to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said that, thanks to the support already announced by the US, Kyiv will be able to continue to resist Russian aggression in 2025. Despite rumors that, with Trump’s effort, Ukraine and Russia will agree on a ceasefire, Kyiv must be prepared for prolonged hostilities.
“We will fight. We are capable of waging war throughout 2025, so now is not the time for doubts, but the time to increase support for Ukraine,” he stressed.
Ukraine and the EU are trying to convince the incoming Trump administration to continue the US’ support for at least another year to understand whether Russia can be defeated, and if sanctions will work.
