Ukraine will stop the transit of Russian gas beginning January 1, 2025; if necessary, it will import through Slovakia and Poland.
The halt of Russian gas transit through the territory of Ukraine from January 1 will become a reality, said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy Roman Andarak during the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue 2024. According to him, transit will no longer be a decisive element in gas supplies for Europe and regions of Ukraine.
“Our GTS operator has had some success in developing alternative gas supplies from other sources,” Andarak added.
According to the head of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, Dmytro Lippa, Slovakia will guarantee daily supplies of 42 million cubic meters of gas until the end of winter 2026. With this, Ukraine receives trunk access to gas from Germany, the Baltic Sea basin, and other sources.
“This means that, if necessary, Ukraine can receive the necessary gas volumes,” Lippa emphasized.
In addition, the GTS Operator is in the final stage of negotiations with the Polish GTS operator Gaz System SA regarding the provision of guaranteed supply capacity from Poland.
