The G7 will continue to support Ukraine’s resistance to Russian aggression, and the Pentagon will speed up weapons delivery.

The G7 countries will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance and support to protect it from Russian aggression for as long as necessary, the G7 leaders said in a statement.

“We are united in our joint efforts to contribute to the struggle for Ukraine’s sovereignty, freedom, independence, territorial integrity and reconstruction,” the statement declares.

The G7 leaders stress that Russia remains the only obstacle to restoring a lasting peace and confirmed their readiness to continue applying pressure on Russia through sanctions, export controls, and other measures.

In turn, the US Ministry of Defense promises to work quickly to fulfil President Biden’s commitments to increase Ukrainian support. This involves transferring all unused funds that have been authorized by Congress for Ukraine, including $5.5B under the president’s authorization to supply weapons to Ukraine from US stockpiles, before Biden’s term ends on January 20.

Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh noted that the US Department of Defense will send shipments of weapons to Ukraine every week.
