Macron and Starmer want to convince Biden to give Ukraine permission for long-range strikes on Russia; Biden will ask Congress and Trump to continue support for Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are set on convincing US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to launch long-range Storm Shadow missiles into Russia before he leaves the White House.

According to British government sources, the issue is thought to have been discussed at a meeting in Paris on November 11. French and British leaders are counting on Biden to accept their offer, perhaps in an attempt to preserve his political legacy. Macron and Starmer also plan to discuss ways to prevent the US from cutting military aid to Ukraine after Donald Trump takes office.

Biden, in turn, will try to convince Congress and the next administration of the need to continue supporting Ukraine by the end of his term, said Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor. He noted that “withdrawing from Ukraine will mean more instability in Europe.”
