The barrel of the gun will be European: new details of Trump’s plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
US President-elect Donald Trump may call on European and British troops to secure an 800-mile (1,200-kilometer) buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies as part of a plan to freeze the war between the countries, writes The Telegraph. The plan is one of several Trump is considering. As previously described, this involves freezing the current front line and preventing Ukraine from joining NATO for 20 years in exchange for US-supplied arms to prevent Russia from resuming the war. At the same time, the US will not provide troops to patrol and protect the buffer zone, nor will it finance it.
“We can conduct training and provide other support, but the barrel of the gun will be European. We are not sending Americans to maintain peace in Ukraine, and we will not pay for it. Let the Poles, Germans, British, and French do it,” said a member of Trump’s team.
Donald Trump has never explained exactly what kind of deal he thinks could end the war.
