Germany has significantly increased its Ukrainian grain imports since the start of the war.

The German federal government confirms the increase in Ukrainian grain imports and, at the same time, denies any negative impact from this on its market. Grain imports have grown since 2022, when the Russian Federation started its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The import of fodder and food grain from Ukraine peaked in recent years – about 741,000 tons. For the first half of 2024, volumes approached 490,000 tons.

The largest import share is corn. This year alone through July, Germany imported about 447,000 tons of corn. Last year, wheat imports were extraordinarily high, averaging almost 106,000 tons. Before the war in 2022, the import of Ukrainian wheat fluctuated between 6,000 and 2,000 tons.

The government emphasized that they have no information about any deviations from EU requirements and standards discovered during inspections of Ukrainian grain by official German food and feed inspection officials.
