Washington will be ready to invite Ukraine to NATO if Harris wins.

During his visit to Germany on October 18, US President Joe Biden discussed Ukraine’s current problems with the leaders of Germany, France, and Britain. Ukraine’s invitation to NATO tops the list of sensitive topics. Ukraine’s president believes the invitation could come before December and the end of Biden’s term of office.

So far, the US and Germany have blocked any prospect of NATO expansion involving Ukraine, while France and the UK are more open to the idea. However, there are signals that the US no longer has serious objections to Ukraine’s invitation. There is speculation that if Kamala Harris wins, Biden could take concrete action on this issue during the transition period.

It is assumed that a change in the US position would alter Germany’s unyielding course. However, this decision must be endorsed by all 32 NATO members. Turkey, Hungary, and Slovakia are likely to oppose a rapid rapprochement between Kyiv and the Alliance.
