Mike Johnson is counting on Trump’s victory, which will end the war and cut financing for Ukraine.
The speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, hopes that Donald Trump will win the presidential election, ending the war in Ukraine and eliminating the need for the approval of further aid. Johnson said he has no desire to continue funding Ukraine and hopes it would not be required.
“If Trump wins the election, I believe he will be able to end this conflict. But if Kamala Harris wins, the war in Ukraine will not end, which is a desperate and dangerous scenario,” the Republican added.
Previously, Johnson delayed the adoption of a $61B aid package for Ukraine, which led to a shortage of equipment and further destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by the Russians. The situation in Congress may change in favor of the Republicans after the elections in November, which will add uncertainty to continued financing for Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that in the seven swing states, which will determine the fate of the election, voters prefer Donald Trump on the issue of resolving the war in Ukraine and the Middle East.
