This year, the Russian Federation has attacked the Ukrainian energy system with more than 1,000 missiles and drones.

As noted by the Ministry of Energy, the intensity of Russian shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities in 2024 will significantly exceed the number of attacks on energy infrastructure in the previous years of the war. This year, the Russian Federation used a total of more than 1,000 weapons – drones and missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles. The cumulative losses of Ukraine’s energy capacities due to this year’s attacks exceed 9 GW. This would be enough to provide electricity for four EU countries.

Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda, who is completing his diplomatic mission, reports that in October Tokyo is preparing to provide Ukraine with generators, large transformers, other energy equipment, and protective structures. The country is also preparing to supply cogeneration turbines and gas cogeneration plants, with a particular focus on Kharkiv.
