Ukrainian authorities call on the EU to increase aid to Ukraine in the new 2028-2034 EU budget to €400B.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, made this proposal at a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“We expect to launch a financial instrument for Ukraine in the new EU budget for 2028-2034. We proposed to increase the financial offer from €200B to €400B and introduce a separate budget program,” Shmyhal said.

He notes that the EU is already implementing the Ukraine Facility financing program, with a total volume of €50B, which will be calculated by the end of 2027. As part of this program, Ukraine has already received €12B in support and expects to receive €16B by the end of the year, which will be the same amount of support it will receive in 2025.

The government official also thanked the head of the EC for the new €35B macro-financial support program, which became part of the G7 plan to provide Ukraine with $50B in loans secured by profits from the Russian Federation’s frozen assets.
