The project to supply electricity from Polish TPPs to Ukraine is a non-starter.

Poland’s electricity production project for Ukraine has not yet started to be implemented. In July, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the possibility of producing electricity for Ukraine at Polish TPPs.

At that time, there was talk of constructing a second power transmission line from Rzeszów (Poland) to the Khmelnytskyi NPP, but construction has not yet begun. According to the plan, in the long term this would allow the throughput capacity for imports to double – up to 1.6 GW.

However, Poland attempted to persuade the European Commission to eliminate the CO2 emissions tax for producing electricity using coal. At this point, the concept has almost no chance of implementation. According to experts, it is hardly worth expecting the EC will allow Poland to evade the tax on harmful emissions.

In addition, it will be necessary to change the interstate crossing access rules to allow targeted electricity supplies.
